Batman: Arkham Asylum Thoughts on Multiplayer

According to the game's publisher Eidos and developer RockSteady Batman: Arkham Asylum will not feature any multiplayer modes, which is a shame. This is likely because the omission of Robin in this game leaves it a solo affair for the Dark Knight, like the current movies bearing the same name. However, wouldn't it be interesting to feature a mode like Pitch Black from Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena? Here's what I'm imagining:

The game would feature up to 6 players; one player would assume the role of Batman, and the other 5 would assume the role of thugs who are trying to take him out. Batman would be invisible to the thugs unless he:
  1. Jump down to the same level as one of the thugs.
  2. Pulled off some action that was loud enough for a nearby thug to hear.

So, just like the thug NPC's in the Silent Knight Challenge Room Trailer (embedded below for convenience) most of the time the thugs would have no clue as to Batman's location. If Batman is able to incapacitate all thugs, then the last thug standing becomes Batman in the next round. However, if one of the thugs is able to incapacitate Batman, he will become Batman in the next round.

Now of course there would have to be some mechanics added so that the thugs don't just huddle together so as to ambush Batman. Perhaps there would need to be a disqualification mechanism so that thugs only have a limited time to move away from one another before being disqualified. Additionally, markers (at various locations around the map) could be added for thugs to investigate while looking for Batman. And perhaps equipment stations where they can get various weapons to keep things interesting.

I think adding such a mode would give Batman: Arkham Asylum even more re-playability, and is something that could be easily added as DLC.

Eidos/RockSteady are you listening?

Please add any thoughts you have to the comments section.
