Chronicles of Riddick: Graphics Comparison Old vs. New Engine

For those of you (like me) who are still on the fence about whether to purchase the new Chronicle of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, this post is for you! Embedded is a video comparison of the Old Engine (2004) to the New Engine (2009) for the "Escape from Butcher's Bay" section of the game.

NOTE: The comparison has been performed in High Definition at 720P.

Enjoy.

Introducing the 'PSP Go!'

The 'PSP Go!' is yet another speculative design for a new PSP, which will supposedly be shown at this years E3. This version of the PSP reportedly has no UMD drive, but instead will offer an 8- or 16-GB HD. Personally, I would love to see a design like this... with one important addition, DUAL ANALOG NUBS!!!!

Get more details here.

More thoughts on the new Aliens Vs. Predator

Recently, SEGA has been working on as many as three games in the Aliens Universe; yet it seems two of them, Aliens: Colonial Marines (Gear Box) and an Aliens RPG (Obsidian) have been delayed or canceled.

However, the recently uncovered Aliens Vs. Predator title (due to ship in early 2010) sounds like it could be quite the experience! Kotaku reports that work is being done to truly differentiate the three player classes, namely the Alien, Colonial Marine, and Predator.

The Alien class will be able to scale both walls and ceilings, and will be the fastest of the three. The Predator will have the cloaking ability (invisibility) seen in the movies, as well as the ability to jump and glide like it does in the movies (think Zero-G sequences from Dead Space).

SEGA here's an idea: take Aliens: Colonial Marines, which is a squad-based four player cooperative third person shooter, and integrate it as an online cooperative mode within the new Aliens Vs. Predator game!

Resistance 2 offers a completely separate experience for cooperative play with eight players, SEGA show us how you could improve on this formula. No other game today offers a fully flushed out game as a cooperative experience. Alien Vs. Predator would instantly be the best value proposition on the market, and if the game play is as tight as I would expect from developers like Gear Box and Rebellion, the combination of the two could be Game of the Year!

Bionic Commando - Be Bionic Trailer

This new trailer of Bionic Commando definitely looks promising. I'll be keeping my eye on this one; however, with so many great games coming out over the next year, I wonder if this one will be lost in the shuffle?

Prototype: Breed Something New Trailer

Well, this video settles it for me. I've finally found a solution to my dilemma of whether to purchase InFAMOUS or Prototype... I'm getting both!

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will have multiplayer

Until today's official announcement and subsequent trailer, I was planning to rent Uncharted 2, as I did with the first game, to play through the single player experience. But now... It's definitely on my buy list, and I will be placing my pre-order on Amazon today!

Dante's Inferno: First PSP Screenshot

Below is the first screenshot of Dante's Inferno for PSP. I own a PSP and would very much like to do more gaming on the go with it. But I'll admit, the lack of a second analog stick on the PSP makes it less than desirable for more than just a few games, **cough** Star Wars Battlefront **cough**. I haven't played Resistance: Retribution on it yet, so when I get a copy, we'll see...

An Aliens Vs. Predator Game for a New Era

Word is all over the Internet that SEGA is working on a new Aliens Vs. Predator game, which will tell a story that occurs 30-years after the Aliens movie. In this game, you may play as the Alien, Predator or Colonial Marine in like manner to the games of the same name on the PC earlier this decade. Now I believe that if game is done right, it would be the Aliens Vs. Predator game we've always wanted in similar fashion to the new Batman game (Arkham Asylum to be released this June).

Hopefully, SEGA will follow a similar path to Eidos' Batman, and build a game that is true to its roots.

When playing as the colonial marine, you should feel afraid (as one does in a game like Dead Space), paranoid that as you cross each corridor an Alien may jump out and rip you to shreds within moments! This section of the game should have a very survivor horror feel to it.

As the Alien, you should feel like a silent predator; lurking in the shadows, and crawling through the ventilation systems, jumping out at a moments notice to devour your prey. This section of the game should be played and viewed as a stealth-based action game.

And finally, as a Predator, you should feel like a lone hunter; fearless and confident. You have all the tools to easily dispatch a Colonial Marine or Alien. This section of the game should be played as an action-based shooter.

If the formula above is followed, we can expect quite a game! An Alien Vs. Predator game for a new era. The Alien Vs. Predator game that I have always wanted!

Star Trek hits PlayStation Home

Although the XBOX360 Fanboys would have you believe there's nothing special about home, it is truly becoming a cool place to hang out wit friends. Having all three current generation consoles, I must say that although I was initially on my XBOX360 all the time, my playtime has all but moved to the PlayStation 3 around 85% to 90% of the time. Now, to the matter at hand... Apparently we'll soon see avatars in Home walking around with Star Trek uniforms! I'm a big Star Trek fan, so for me, this is just great! See ya out there.

Batman: Arkham Asylum Exclusive PS3 Content

Based on an advertisement inside of PlayStation Home, it seems there will be some Exclusive Content delivered to the PS3 for the upcoming game, Batman: Arkham Asylum. Based on what I've been able to surmise you'll be able to 'Play as the Joker' in the exclusive Joker Challenge Map!!!

UPDATE: Eidos and Warner Bros. have confirmed the Joker as a free downloadable content. Joker will only be playable in Challenge Maps, not in the main campaign.

Batman: Arkham Asylum Demo?

I just spotted this video (on VG247) of what is apparently a PS3 demo of the upcoming game Batman: Arkham Asylum, which was uploaded to YouTube.  The quality of the video is not very high, but it's enough so that you get the picture.

Batman: Arkham Asylum Thoughts on Multiplayer

According to the game's publisher Eidos and developer RockSteady Batman: Arkham Asylum will not feature any multiplayer modes, which is a shame. This is likely because the omission of Robin in this game leaves it a solo affair for the Dark Knight, like the current movies bearing the same name. However, wouldn't it be interesting to feature a mode like Pitch Black from Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena? Here's what I'm imagining:

The game would feature up to 6 players; one player would assume the role of Batman, and the other 5 would assume the role of thugs who are trying to take him out. Batman would be invisible to the thugs unless he:
  1. Jump down to the same level as one of the thugs.
  2. Pulled off some action that was loud enough for a nearby thug to hear.

So, just like the thug NPC's in the Silent Knight Challenge Room Trailer (embedded below for convenience) most of the time the thugs would have no clue as to Batman's location. If Batman is able to incapacitate all thugs, then the last thug standing becomes Batman in the next round. However, if one of the thugs is able to incapacitate Batman, he will become Batman in the next round.

Now of course there would have to be some mechanics added so that the thugs don't just huddle together so as to ambush Batman. Perhaps there would need to be a disqualification mechanism so that thugs only have a limited time to move away from one another before being disqualified. Additionally, markers (at various locations around the map) could be added for thugs to investigate while looking for Batman. And perhaps equipment stations where they can get various weapons to keep things interesting.

I think adding such a mode would give Batman: Arkham Asylum even more re-playability, and is something that could be easily added as DLC.

Eidos/RockSteady are you listening?

Please add any thoughts you have to the comments section.

Bioshock 2: Debut Gameplay Trailer

I always thought it would be cool to control a Big Daddy, and now it seems in BioShock 2 you do just that... The part I didn't think much about was that you'd have to fight to protect the little sister from any threats, and it seems in this new game the threats are many!!!!

Batman: Arkham Asylum - Harley Quinn

The trailers keep coming for Batman: Arkham Asylum and with each successive trailer I want the game even more!!! For those of you who are considering pre-ordering the game, Amazon is currently listing it for $52.99 ($7.00 savings)!

Amazon is at it again....

In a post earlier this month, I mentioned that frequently sites like Amazon are pricing the XBOX360 versions of cross-platform games at substantially lower prices than their PS3 counterparts. This is true today of Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. The XBOX360 version is priced at $44.95 whereas the PS3 version is priced at $53.99!!!Is this a further indication that the PS3 is a true next-generation system (2x) whereas the XBOX360 is sort of 1.5x? You decide. I currently own the XBOX360, PS3 and Wii, and I buy most of the highly rated exclusives for all three platforms; however, when it comes to cross-platform games, I begun to buy the PS3 versions.

Duke Nukem Forever hits a development milestone

Duke Nukem Forever is a game that has seemingly been in development for like... well, forever... has recently hit a development milestone. No, it's not finished, and there is no release date as of yet. DNF's original development target was the PS2/XBOX generation of consoles. Currently it is believed to be targeting the PS3/XBOX360 consoles; however, I'm beginning to wonder if this is going to be a PS4/XBOX720 generation game.

B.U.N.G.L.E. - The Fight is not finished...

Terminator Salvation Trailer

Let me start by saying, I'm a huge Terminator fan!!! Huge!!! But I'm sorry... I feel no urge to but this game. The trailers don't really show much game play, and when they do, it's average at best. It just looks like a very generic shooter. I think the only way to salvage this game is to allow the gamer to play as a terminator...
