Little Big Planet to be patched for motion controls!

"In this five minute video, Sony's new motion control wand is used in a cooperative mode of LittleBigPlanet. One player handles Sackboy with a Dualshock, while another manipulates objects to help him complete his tour through the level." (Kotaku)

Assassin's Creed II: Lineage

Metro 2033: The Last Refuge

If you loved Fallout 3 as much as I did, then no doubt you're itching to get your hands on Fallout: Moscow Metro 2033. The game, which looks like a cross between Fallout and Dead Space, is set in the post-apocalytic world of 2033 and takes place in Moscow, where mankind now lives underground. The surface is rampant with mutants, who seem to see what's left of humanity as prey! The game has been in development for over 3 years, and looks very promising indeed. Unfortunately for my PS3 brethren, the game is being release for PC and XBOX360 only at this point.

XBOX NEXT

There's been a lot of discussion about both Microsoft and Sony, and their respective soon-to-be-released motion controllers, Natal and the Sphere. Most believe that these new motion controllers pose a significant threat to Nintendo, and I'd agree; however, I think there's more going on here.

I believe that Microsoft is planning to re-release the XBOX 360 as a new console. One that is 100% backwards compatible with the current models from both a software and peripherals standpoint; however, this new console will also be more powerful. Many pundits believe that when Microsoft releases their next console that it will also sport a high capacity format (e.g. Bluray Disk or HD-DVD); however I disagree. Microsoft will stick with the current DVD drive; but will offer a much higher capacity HDD than we've seen thus far. I believe the new entry-level HDD will be 250GB and may scale up to 1TB.

So what makes me think all this is really going to happen?

I have a few reasons:

1. Now that Sony has introduced the 120GB PS3 Slim at $299, Microsoft needs to respond with more than just another price cut. They need something that will allow them to proclaim that their system is superior, and the best way to do that is beef up their offering from a technical perspective, while being careful not to alienate their current installed base. So, to do this, they will release the new console, but create games to work on both. Is it so far fetched? Think about the way the PC gaming market works. If you have an average PC, you can still run most games, but they won't look as good as if you have a high-powered gaming rig. The same logic can work on a console!

2. EPIC Games made the statement that the third installment of Gears of War won't be released until the next console generation. While most believe that's 2011-12 at the earliest, I believe for Microsoft (and perhaps Nintendo) it's 2010! Does anyone actually believe that a new Gears of War game won't appear until 2011-12?

3. Shane Kim, Microsoft's Corporate Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, stated that it will be treating Natal's launch like the launch of a new console.

Are you getting the picture yet? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments section.
