XBox 720 vs. PS3
It looks like the worsening economy just bought Sony some more time. What do I mean by this? Many analysts and enthusiasts either were expecting or are still expecting a new XBox console (e.g. XBox 720) sometime between holiday season 2009 and mid-year 2010. And honestly, I believed so as well. However, given the poor (and worsening) economy there's little chance of a new XBox. I'm sure if Microsoft was planning to release the XBox 720, those plans are now on hold.
So what does this mean for Sony? Well, I believe an XBox 720 would have dealt a crushing blow to an already fragile console. Sure, Sony has Killzone 2, InFamous, Uncharted 2, and a slew of other exclusives being released in 2009, but the lure of a next-next-generation console would have overruled anything Sony could muster. I'd imagine that Microsoft would have new versions of Halo and Gears of War making an appearance as launch titles, both running natively at 1080p!!! That would be truly compelling.
Alas, Sony has been given a gift. Without the XBox 720 coming out, Microsoft's line up for 2009 looks rather unimpressive. I'm not saying that there aren't any good titles coming out, because there are!!! Resident Evil 5 for example will be huge... However, it will be cross-platform, as are many of the other hot titles for the 360 in 2009. Exclusives are what we care about!!!
Which brings me to my final point... Can the XBox 360 continue to compete with future high-end PS3 titles? If Sony's first and second party developers can continue to produce games of the caliber of Killzone 2, will the XBox 360 slip to third place? Time will tell...

Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings
Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings looks to be shaping up as quite the action title. I'll definitely have to keep my eye on this one!

Leaked Star Wars Battlefront 3 footage
The embedded video is (supposedly) leaked footage of the yet to be officially announced Star War Battlefront 3. After the lukewarm reception of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, I'm expected the level of polish (in terms of gameplay, the graphics for SWTFU were really good) on SWBF3 to be significantly better.

Year of the Playstation 3?
Throughout most of last year you probably read "2008 is the Year of the PlayStation 3" across every fan-boy blog and PlayStation 3 centric website. And, let's be frank, the PS3 had a decent year, but I'd hardly call it the Year of the PS3. There were a few really good exclusives: LittleBigPlanet (my favorite game right now), Metal Gear Solid 4 (I also own this one), and Resistance 2 (Didn't care for this one as much). I'll admit, having all three of the next generation consoles, until recently I played the XBox 360 most of the time; including Gears of War 2, Left 4 Dead, and Fable 2. However, examining the software lineup for 2009, I've become a believer. The game exclusives I have my eye on are: KillZone 2, InFamous, Quantum Theory, Heavy Rain, DC Universe Online, God of War 3, and Uncharted 2. Consider the embedded video of KillZone 2 from CES 2009:
KillZone 2 will absolutely set the bar for all first person shooters that follow it, and could easily snag Game of the Year for 2009.
Take a look at the video below, which showcases some of the PlayStation 3 2009 Exclusives:
In stark contrast, Microsoft doesn't seem to have the same weight in terms of exclusives for 2009. Microsoft's big exclusives for 2009 are Halo Wars and Halo ODST... Sorry, MS that just won't cut it.

Crackdown Who?
I have been patiently waiting for Microsoft to release a Crackdown Sequel... But no more, I've moved on. InFamous looks set to deliver everything I loved about Crackdown and more. For those of you who loved Crackdown too, but don't own a PS3... Sorry...

New Red Bull space on PS3 Home
New content is coming to PS3 Home tomorrow!!! A new Red Bull space is being added to PS3 Home.

The Red Bull space is going live. You'll be able to access it through your World Map by clicking on the Red Bull Air Race tile. In the Red Bull space, you'll be able to walk the island and participate in different events from Red Bull. This week, you'll be able to check out the cockpit of one of Red Bull's Air Race planes. You'll also be able to play the course and compete against other racers. However, this isn't the only thing Red Bull has to offer, as there are more to come from them in the coming months. Wet
Wet is an action game (more specifically a third person shooter) that was originally slated for a 2008 release on both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Somehow, it slipped through the cracks and now looks to be seeing a release sometime in 2009.
Quantum Theory
Finally, PS3 gamers may have a suitable replacement for Gears of War, called Quantum Theory (from Tecmo of Ninja Gaiden fame). Currently, Gears of War stands alone as a third person shooter in a war-torn environment, with a strong cover system, a campaign that is rooted in cooperative play, and a gritty story line with some of the biggest, baddest dudes you've ever seen. Well, Quantum Theory has all of those features, and looks to be bringing some new stuff to the table (like organically moving cover that is completely dynamic and in real-time!). Best of all, it's exclusively for the PS3!
