Little Big Planet to be patched for motion controls!

"In this five minute video, Sony's new motion control wand is used in a cooperative mode of LittleBigPlanet. One player handles Sackboy with a Dualshock, while another manipulates objects to help him complete his tour through the level." (Kotaku)

Assassin's Creed II: Lineage

Metro 2033: The Last Refuge

If you loved Fallout 3 as much as I did, then no doubt you're itching to get your hands on Fallout: Moscow Metro 2033. The game, which looks like a cross between Fallout and Dead Space, is set in the post-apocalytic world of 2033 and takes place in Moscow, where mankind now lives underground. The surface is rampant with mutants, who seem to see what's left of humanity as prey! The game has been in development for over 3 years, and looks very promising indeed. Unfortunately for my PS3 brethren, the game is being release for PC and XBOX360 only at this point.

Check out the trailers:

XBOX NEXT

There's been a lot of discussion about both Microsoft and Sony, and their respective soon-to-be-released motion controllers, Natal and the Sphere. Most believe that these new motion controllers pose a significant threat to Nintendo, and I'd agree; however, I think there's more going on here.

I believe that Microsoft is planning to re-release the XBOX 360 as a new console. One that is 100% backwards compatible with the current models from both a software and peripherals standpoint; however, this new console will also be more powerful. Many pundits believe that when Microsoft releases their next console that it will also sport a high capacity format (e.g. Bluray Disk or HD-DVD); however I disagree. Microsoft will stick with the current DVD drive; but will offer a much higher capacity HDD than we've seen thus far. I believe the new entry-level HDD will be 250GB and may scale up to 1TB.

So what makes me think all this is really going to happen?

I have a few reasons:

1. Now that Sony has introduced the 120GB PS3 Slim at $299, Microsoft needs to respond with more than just another price cut. They need something that will allow them to proclaim that their system is superior, and the best way to do that is beef up their offering from a technical perspective, while being careful not to alienate their current installed base. So, to do this, they will release the new console, but create games to work on both. Is it so far fetched? Think about the way the PC gaming market works. If you have an average PC, you can still run most games, but they won't look as good as if you have a high-powered gaming rig. The same logic can work on a console!

2. EPIC Games made the statement that the third installment of Gears of War won't be released until the next console generation. While most believe that's 2011-12 at the earliest, I believe for Microsoft (and perhaps Nintendo) it's 2010! Does anyone actually believe that a new Gears of War game won't appear until 2011-12?

3. Shane Kim, Microsoft's Corporate Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, stated that it will be treating Natal's launch like the launch of a new console.

Are you getting the picture yet? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments section.

Batman Arkham Asylum - Dem Bones

GameStop is offering "Dem Bones"; an exclusive challenge map for pre-ordering Batman: Arkham Asylum from the retailer. In this challenge map you play as Batman, and take on Scarecrow and his minions of skeletons! Personally, I think exclusive DLC for pre-ordering games at a specific retailer is a bad direction for gamers. I have already pre-ordered the game from Amazon.com for $52.99 (no tax, no shipping), so why would I pay $59.99 + tax to buy it at GameStop? As much as I would like the DLC; I'll pass on this one.

Metroid: Other M - Debut Trailer

The embedded video is a trailer of a new Metroid for a new generation, and is being developed by the famed Team Ninja (Dead or Alive Series). My thoughts: the trailer looks very good... but it's hard to picture these graphics coming from a current generation Wii. I guess we'll have to wait and see!

Metal Gear Solid 4 for XBOX 360?

All over the Internet all every blog out there is talking about is MSG4+Oxide for XBOX 360, and as we've approached E3, the rumors get stronger. It's obvious that something is going to happen, but will we see MGS4 on the 360? I seriously doubt it. As a matter of fact Konami went on record saying "unfortunately we are still not working on a 360 version of MGS4. However, we're revealing something."

So if not MGS4, what is it?

I think it's MGS5!!!

I guess we'll see tomorrow.

Team Fortess 2: The Spy... Isn't it obvious?

Batman: Arkham Asylum - Demo at Best Buy

Today I had an opportunity to play Batman: Arkham Asylum Demo on the PS3 at Best Buy. So what's the verdict? It's everything they said it is and more. The combo system is awesome! Just above the head of the enemies, you'll notice a electric blue spark. When you see this, if you press the triangle button, you'll perform a counter-attack! I can't wait for this game to come out in September.

Damnation: The Enemies of Damnation Trailer

Damnation seems to be equal parts Call of Duty and Crackdown, with its gritty war centric story line and its vertical go-anywhere-environments. The question is does the game have the chops to compete with inFAMOUS, Prototype, Bionic Commando, Terminator: Salvation, and other shooters being released within the same timeframe.

InFAMOUS: The Developers Talk About the Game

Duke Nukem Forever leaked gameplay video?

The embedded video seems to be gameplay of the famed vaporware 'Duke Nukem Forever'. It's a shame this game may never see the light of day, as it looks to be an entertaining mix of a first person shooter with adult themed antics (including the section where Duke investigates a gentlemen's club). With imaginative level designs, fluidly animated enemies, huge bosses, and at least one on-rail section, where you ride in a mining cart, it looks like the gameplay would have been both entertaining and fairly immersive.

There's also a forum thread with images of various Duke Nukem Forever assets, see it here

Red Steel 2

I played the original Red Steel, and while it was far from ideal, it was easy to see that in the hands of the right development team, it's sequel could be the game we (core gamers) have been waiting for! If the trailer truly demonstrates what we can expect, then I'll be buying a copy as soon as it's released! I guess we'll have to see what the coming weeks and months will bring.

What's Microsoft up to?

Microsoft seems to have a software drought at the moment (pertaining to XBOX 360 exclusives). On the surface, it looks like Sony is going to blow Microsoft out of the water from now until the end of 2009. But, what if the reason Microsoft hasn't announced anything new is because they are waiting to announce a slew of new games that have some special connection/interaction with a yet-to-be-announced peripheral. What peripheral you ask? The X-Mote.

There have been many rumors reported (including on my blog) about this phantom piece of hardware, and there still have been no official announcements. Well, E3 2009 is coming in about a month, and you'd best believe that Microsoft wants to show something great.  Something that will marginalize both Nintendo and Sony. So, what could Microsoft do to marginalize Nintendo? Steal their thunder! Help everyone to see how limited and primitive the Wii really is! No offense to the Wii crowd, I fell for the hype too, and bought one... Just admit it, we've all been had.

If Microsoft announces a Wiimote-like controller with equal or better accuracy than the Wii Motion Plus offers, along with a handful of key titles... Microsoft may just have a winner on its hands. Furthermore, if Microsoft bundles the new controller with the model of the XBOX 360 that sells for $199, perhaps it would start eating Wii sales. The majority of "casual" gamers who are buying the Wii, are buying it to play Wii Sports. So, if Microsoft ships their console with a Wii Sports clone, and the motion controller than it may become a better all around game console than the Wii. A games console for all of us.

But what would this introduction mean for Sony? Well, if Sony doesn't release a similar controller with games to support it, then Sony may loose additional ground to Microsoft. The PS3 is already more expensive than the XBOX 360, and if the 360 adds motion-based gaming to its repertoire, Microsoft may be propelled to first place within a year or two!

So, what is Microsoft up to? I guess we'll see at E3.

Introducing the 'PSP Go!'

The 'PSP Go!' is yet another speculative design for a new PSP, which will supposedly be shown at this years E3. This version of the PSP reportedly has no UMD drive, but instead will offer an 8- or 16-GB HD. Personally, I would love to see a design like this... with one important addition, DUAL ANALOG NUBS!!!!

Get more details here.
